Take 5: Five things to know about USask’s Young Alumni Social

The inaugural networking event for recent graduates was held on Jan. 16, 2025

The University of Saskatchewan (USask) hosted its first-ever Young Alumni Social during the evening of Jan. 16, 2025. The Green&White shares five things about the event.

USask’s first Young Alumni Social was held at Remai Modern on Jan. 16, 2025.

1. The Young Alumni Social was held for USask graduates from 2014 to 2024.

More than 200 USask graduates from the last decade, representing a wide variety of colleges, schools, and academic programs from across the university, attended USask’s inaugural Young Alumni Social. The evening was an opportunity to network, to reconnect with fellow graduates and college and school alumni representatives, and to learn more about the supports, benefits, and services that USask offers after graduation.

The event featured a panel discussion focused on innovation and entrepreneurism.

2. The event took place at Remai Modern.

Attendees gathered on the second floor of Remai Modern, a museum of modern and contemporary art located in downtown Saskatoon. The installation Spinner Forest, by American artist Nick Cave, provided a visually stimulating backdrop as attendees gathered and mingled in the space.

3. The event featured great conversation, delicious food, beverages, and USask-branded items.

The Young Alumni Social included appetizers, beverages, and a poutine bar catered by Hearth Restaurant. The graduates in attendance also received USask tote bags and other items designed to celebrate their alumni era.

4. The program included remarks from USask’s president, and a panel discussion focused on innovation and entrepreneurism.

USask graduate Heather Morrison (BFA’08), a broadcaster and the founder and president of Deliver Your Best Public Speaking Coaching, served as the emcee for the Young Alumni Social. Morrison introduced USask President Peter Stoicheff, who brought greetings, and moderated an alumni panel discussion featuring Dr. Azy Behnam (DVM’23) and Marco Donadeo (BComm’18). Behnam is a veterinarian specializing in preventative, emergency, and wildlife medicine who, after graduation, established a scholarship for immigrant students pursuing veterinary medicine. Donadeo is a venture capitalist who manages multi-million-dollar portfolios, shares his knowledge on new business opportunities, entrepreneurship, and start-ups, and serves as a member of the USask Alumni Advisory Board.
